Why a Checklist?

A good checklist keeps everything running smoothly, especially when you’re juggling multiple performers, scripts, songs and set pieces. Ours includes:

  • Key deadlines to set that will keep things moving
  • Tips for curating a balanced, engaging line-up
  • Music and licensing guidance, made simple
  • Reminders for rehearsal planning, promotion, and tech runs

What About Music?

Many variety shows feature solo songs, group singing, or backing tracks. But did you know that photocopying sheet music or lyrics (even just for rehearsals) is only legal if you have the proper permissions?

  • The PMLL Amateur Group Singing Licence allows amateur theatre groups to legally copy music and lyrics for use in rehearsals and performances.
  • You can also choose to purchase or hire original copies or contact publishers directly for permission.

Lyrics are protected too, not just sheet music.
